The Importance of Timing - with the lyrics to "Matter of Time" by Cartel

I wrote this post a while back and to celebrate 10 years of "Chroma" I thought I'd post my connection to these lyrics now.

Since I was born my mother has had some form of depression. It hasn’t been until these recent years that I’ve witnessed an incredible change in her. When I get upset about a situation, the thing which scares me most is that I will not be able to break free from the negative thoughts, and I start to dwell on the past state of my nanna and mum. So to see my mother’s transformation, partly due to change of diet, family counselling, and constant support and positive conditioning, is to witness what I believe to be a miracle. Sure, she gets down once in a while, but now we know to refer to it as a ‘mental health day’, and it kind of removes the burden!

Here it goes again,
Put on that deserving tone
And don't forget that this was all your fault.

It's breathing down your neck,
You know you've got to let this go.
You're such a wreck and now it starts to show.

Throughout my life I’ve always held the belief that everything happens for a reason. I’ve recently expanded on that to incorporate the idea that it happens because I cause it to happen. So whether it’s a bad or good thing, somehow my behaviour influences people/places/situations to have the outcome I deeply desire. I’ve usually acted as though I deserve the best and when others don’t see that I give them hell. So I’ve tried to make some changes, I’m starting to take the idea of ‘my future’ seriously, I’m starting to reconsider some of the opinions I’ve always held so faithfully, and I’m starting to let go of the things which I’ve noticed can hold me down.

Cause all you can't deny
Is all held inside
And when we go, we say goodbye,
And then we run,
We run away.

Cause all we can't deny is just a lie.
And when we try to just get by
We just can't get past ourselves.

Cause where you are is where you'll be:
Always wanting everything.

It's all the same that you can't ignore
Cause all you want is just "to be more".

I just want to feel like I’m making a difference in the world. This idea of wanting ‘everything’ isn’t a true representation of me – I’m definitely less greedy than that. And I know that even the biggest companies in the world have had to face risks at some point in their history which could have bankrupted them, but they’ve ended up turning things around. I want my journey to be like that – I want to know that I’m giving everything to the world because I know that will make me feel better, even if I get no physical proof of success; despite the possibility of failure.

It's creeping up again.
(It's all to be considered.)
(It's a game and you're not the winner)
It's a haunting memory.

Cause all you can't deny
Is all held inside
And when we go, We say goodbye
And then we run,
We run away.

Cause all we can't deny is just a lie.
And when we try to just get by
We just can't get past ourselves.

Cause where you are is where you'll be:
Always wanting everything.
It's all the same- that you can't ignore
Cause all you want is just "to be more".

Cause who you are is who you'll be,
And that is really everything.
It's all the same that you can relate.
Cause what you want's not what you're getting.
It's just a matter of time, It's just a matter of time.
It's just a matter of time, It's just a matter of time-
'Til you know you'll be somebody tonight.

I don’t really believe that people ‘change’ as they grow older, because essentially we are all the same people we were born as. More so we are just moulded by history; we have different influences at different stages of growth. Embrace who you are in every moment. Embrace everyone for their unique differences, their stories, their losses, their triumphs, and their part in this world. If one person existed or didn’t exist at the right time, the entire future of everyone would change. The butterfly effect is as petite an idea as the impression that we make our own luck, but both exist, and continue to dominate. It really is just a matter of time.
